Amit Shah to lead campaign for third phase of J&K Assembly polls with five key rallies

On Thursday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will lead the BJP’s campaign for the third phase of Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir by addressing five rallies.

The third phase of the polls in the Union Territory will be held on October 1.

Shah will begin the day with a Chenani rally and address a meeting at Udhampur. He will then address rallies in Bani and Jasrota before ending the day with an address to a public gathering in Madh.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed a campaign rally in Nowshera on Sunday, asserting that residents of Jammu and Kashmir need not fear cross-border firing, stating, “If Pakistan fires a bullet, we will respond with a mortar shell.” Given the current security situation, he emphasized that the construction of concrete bunkers in border areas is no longer necessary.

Shah criticized opposition parties, particularly the Congress and National Conference (NC), claiming they oppose reservations for communities such as Gujjars, Bakarwals, and Paharis. He referred to remarks made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the U.S., suggesting that reservations are no longer needed due to the progress of those who benefit from them.

The Union Minister took aim at NC leader Farooq Abdullah, alleging that he has misled the Gujjar and Bakarwal communities regarding the implications of reservations for Paharis. Shah promised that following the elections, the government would ensure Paharis receive reservations in promotions, enabling their children to aspire to high-ranking positions.

Challenging Abdullah and Gandhi, Shah declared, “As long as Narendra Modi is Prime Minister, your reservations cannot be taken away.” He accused the NC of attempting to replace the Tricolour with their own flag and vowed that the Modi administration would eradicate terrorism from J&K.

Emphasizing the need for security, Shah stated that dialogue with Pakistan is impossible until terrorism is completely eliminated. He assured the public that no terrorists or stone pelters would be released from prison.

Highlighting the improvements in security since the BJP-led NDA came to power, Shah remarked that there was a time when even the Home Minister could not visit Lal Chowk in Srinagar. “Today, you can take your grandchildren to Lal Chowk in a private vehicle without fear,” he said.

Shah also promised to enhance tourism in the Jammu region, pledging to establish two tourist destinations akin to Pahalgam, increase health coverage under the golden card scheme, and expand financial assistance for farmers. He announced plans to provide 40,000 government jobs and financial support for families, aiming to restrict the cost of LPG cylinders to Rs.500.

In a final appeal, he urged voters to elect BJP candidate Ravinder Raina, asserting that his strong voice is heard in Delhi. “After the elections, we will publish a white paper on terrorism to expose those who have dined with terrorists,” Shah concluded.

He promised two free LPG cylinders on Raksha Bandhan every year, a metro and international airport in Jammu, a water sports facility in Ranjit Sagar dam, reduced electric tariff by 50 percent, Rs.3,000 to college students as travel allowance, laptops and tablets to children upto higher secondary level.

The Union Minister said: “Udhampur will become a pharmaceutical hub, we will form a hill development board for speedy development of hilly areas in Jammu division.
