Shocking discovery near Rohtak bus stand

The body of 22-year-old Congress worker Himani Narwal was found stuffed inside a suitcase near the Sampla bus stand in Haryana’s Rohtak district on Saturday. According to the police, Narwal, a resident of Vijay Nagar in Rohtak, was likely killed elsewhere before being dumped at the location.

The suitcase was spotted by a passerby, who immediately informed the police. Sampla Police Station Inspector Bijender Singh confirmed that an investigation is underway, and a case has been registered. CCTV footage from the area is being analyzed to track down the culprits.

Murder sparks outrage ahead of Haryana civic polls

The gruesome incident occurred just a day before Haryana’s civic elections, which are set to take place across Yamunanagar, Karnal, Panipat, Rohtak, Gurugram, Faridabad, Manesar, and Hisar. Additionally, bypolls for mayoral posts are scheduled for Ambala City and Sonipat.

Himani Narwal was well known for her performances with Haryanvi folk artists at Congress rallies and had participated in Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra.

Police investigation underway

Authorities suspect that Narwal was murdered elsewhere before her body was placed inside the suitcase and abandoned. Sampla Police Station SHO Bijender Singh assured that four teams are actively working on the case, and the postmortem will be conducted soon.

We do not see a political angle at this point, but we are investigating thoroughly,” he stated.

Hooda demands high-level probe

Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda condemned the murder, calling it “barbaric” and a “blot on the state’s law and order.”

The murder of a young woman in such a manner is extremely shocking. Haryana has become one of the most unsafe states for women, as reflected in crime data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) and the Union Government’s Social Progress Index. The BJP government has failed miserably in ensuring security,” Hooda stated.

He demanded a high-level and impartial investigation into the case and called for swift justice and strict punishment for the culprits.

Congress leaders call for strict action

Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra also urged authorities to form a Special Task Investigation (STI) team to ensure a swift resolution of the case.

I have been informed that the body found in the suitcase is that of our worker, Himani Narwal. This is an extremely shocking and tragic incident. The accused must face strict action,” Batra said.

Growing concerns over women’s safety

With the murder occurring on the eve of civic polls, political leaders have intensified their criticism of the ruling BJP government in Haryana. Many have highlighted the state’s deteriorating law and order situation, particularly concerning crimes against women.

As the investigation continues, police officials have assured that all efforts are being made to solve the case at the earliest.
