Iran’s Foreign Minister rejects Trump’s comments on Ayatollah Khamenei

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi strongly condemned US President Donald Trump’s recent comments, calling them “disrespectful and unacceptable.” Trump had claimed that he prevented the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, sparking a sharp response from Tehran.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Araghchi said, “If President Trump is genuine about wanting a deal, he should put aside the disrespectful and unacceptable tone towards Iran’s Supreme Leader, Grand Ayatollah Khamenei, and stop hurting his millions of heartfelt supporters.”

Iran warns against threats and boasts of its deterrent capability

Araghchi further cautioned that the Iranian people would not tolerate insults or threats. He said, “The Great and Powerful Iranian People, who showed the world that the Israeli regime had no choice but to run to ‘Daddy’ to avoid being flattened by our missiles, do not take kindly to threats and insults. If illusions lead to worse mistakes, Iran will not hesitate to unveil its real capabilities, which will certainly end any delusion about the power of Iran.”

Trump claims to have prevented Khamenei’s death

Trump’s comments came in response to Khamenei’s speech following the recent Iran-Israel ceasefire. In his address, Khamenei had declared victory, stating that the United States gained nothing from its strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities and had been delivered a “slap” by Iranian forces.

Trump countered, saying on Truth Social, “Why would the so-called ‘Supreme Leader’ say he won the war with Israel when he knows that’s not true? His country was decimated, three evil nuclear sites were obliterated, and I knew exactly where he was sheltered. I saved him from a very ugly and ignominious death.”

He added that he had ordered Israel to call back a fleet of planes that were reportedly heading toward Tehran in what could have been a devastating final strike.

Trump halts sanctions relief talks after Khamenei’s remarks

Trump also revealed that he was considering lifting sanctions on Iran, but abandoned the idea after Khamenei’s remarks. “They are always so angry, hostile, and unhappy… a burned-out, blown-up country with no future,” he wrote. “I wish the leadership of Iran would realize that you often get more with honey than with vinegar. Peace!

Background on US strikes and Iran’s rejection of nuclear talks

The United States had recently carried out airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites. While the effectiveness of the strikes remains debated, Trump previously stated that nuclear negotiations would resume after the ceasefire. However, Iran refused to participate in talks following the US offensive.
