Army Captain among 2 soldiers killed in suspected IED blast in Akhnoor

Two Indian Army personnel, including a Captain, were killed in action in a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast near the Laleali area of Akhnoor along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu on Tuesday.

According to preliminary reports, at least three Jawans of the Indian Army received grievous injuries when a powerful explosion hit them during a routine patrolling duty in the forward area.

The martyred soldiers have been identified as Capt Karamjit Singh Bakshi and Naik Mukesh.

Lt Gen MV Suchindra Kumar, Army Commander, Northern Command and all ranks of Dhruva Command solemnly salute the supreme sacrifice of Bravehearts. Dhruva Command stands firm with the bereaved family in this hour of grief.

Confirming the incident, Nagrota-based White Knight Corps posted on X, “Suspected Improvised Explosive Device blast reported in Laleali in Akhnoor Sector during a fence patrol resulting in two fatalities. Own troops are dominating the area and search operations are underway”.

White Knight Corps salutes and pays tribute to the supreme sacrifice of two gallant soldiers, reads the post.

Local reports claimed the improvised explosive device (IED) may have been planted in the area by the suspected terrorists.

This is the third incident in the last week where Indian soldiers have been targeted from across the Line of Control.

A soldier was hit by a stray bullet along the LoC in the Kalal area of Nowshera in the frontier Rajouri district on Monday. Earlier, on Feb 8, a patrolling party also came under fire from across the loc in the Keri sector of the Rajouri sector.
