PM Modi to receive top honours of Guyana and Barbados during his historic visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to receive the highest national honours from both Guyana and Barbados, marking another milestone in his collection of international accolades. These awards will increase his total to 19, further cementing his standing on the global stage.

Guyana will present the ‘Order of Excellence,’ while Barbados will confer the ‘Honorary Order of Freedom of Barbados’ upon the Prime Minister. The awards recognize Modi’s leadership and contributions to international diplomacy, as well as his efforts to strengthen relations with both countries.

Before arriving in Guyana, PM Modi completed a successful trip to Nigeria, where he held significant bilateral talks with Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. During this visit, Nigeria honoured Modi with its highest distinction, the ‘Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger’ (GCON). Modi became only the second foreign dignitary to receive the prestigious award, which was first conferred upon Queen Elizabeth II in 1969.

“Nigeria values its excellent relationship with India, and we work to deepen and broaden the same to the mutual benefit of our two friendly countries,” President Tinubu stated. “You represent a very strong commitment to democratic values and norms, and we respect your achievement of winning three consecutive elections in a complex society.”

This recognition from Nigeria is part of a broader trend of global recognition for Modi’s leadership. Earlier this week, Dominica also announced its highest honour, the ‘Dominica Award of Honour,’ which will be conferred on Modi for his critical support during the Covid-19 pandemic and his efforts to strengthen India-Dominica ties. The award will be presented at the India-CARICOM Summit in Guyana, which Modi is expected to attend next week.

These new awards will bring the total number of civilian honours received by PM Modi to 17, reflecting his growing influence and leadership on the global stage. Modi’s international accolades include prestigious recognitions from countries such as Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Palestine, the UAE, Russia, and Egypt, among others.

In addition to these national honours, PM Modi has received several prestigious awards from global organizations. In 2018, he was awarded the Seoul Peace Prize for his contributions to global harmony, and the United Nations honoured him with the Champions of The Earth Award for his environmental leadership. Modi also received the first-ever Philip Kotler Presidential Award in 2019, as well as the Global Goalkeeper Award from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for his Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

PM Modi’s leadership continues to be acknowledged across the world, with each new recognition underscoring India’s expanding influence and growing diplomatic stature under his guidance.
