Zelensky makes bold claim amid ongoing speculation about Putin’s health

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made a striking statement during an interview in Paris, claiming that Russian President Vladimir Putinwill die soon,” suggesting that his death would mark the end of the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.

“He (Putin) will die soon, and that’s a fact, and it (the war) will come to an end,” Zelensky told reporters following a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday.

Putin’s health under renewed scrutiny

Speculation surrounding President Putin’s health has persisted for months. Videos showing him coughing frequently and displaying involuntary hand and foot movements have fueled unverified rumors about possible illnesses.

A particularly notable video from 2022 showed Putin gripping a table and slouching during a meeting with former Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. Reports have circulated suggesting that the Russian leader may be suffering from Parkinson’s disease or cancer, though the Kremlin has consistently denied any such claims.

Zelensky accuses Russia of prolonging the war

President Zelensky also criticized Russia for allegedly stalling peace efforts.
Russia wants this war to continue. It is dragging it out. We need to put pressure on Russia so that the war ends indeed,” he stated during the press interaction.

Continued tensions despite energy target ceasefire

Zelensky’s remarks come amid a recently brokered ceasefire focused on halting strikes on energy infrastructure. The US played a role in facilitating the 30-day pause, but drone strikes have continued.

Ukraine reported 117 drone attacks by Russia this week alone, including a major strike on Kryvyi Rih, Zelensky’s hometown—described as the largest drone attack on the city since the war began over three years ago.

Meanwhile, Russia alleged that Ukraine attempted attacks on critical infrastructure, including a gas storage facility in Crimea and targets in the Kursk and Bryansk regions. Russia claimed it intercepted and destroyed nine Ukrainian drones involved in those incidents.
