Victim’s family blames Samajwadi Party worker for political killing

A 23-year-old Dalit woman‘s body was discovered in a sack in Uttar Pradesh‘s Karhal constituency on Tuesday morning, triggering a political controversy. The victim’s family has accused a local Samajwadi Party (SP) worker of killing her for supporting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the ongoing bypolls.

According to the police, two individuals, Prashant Yadav and Mohan Katheria, have been arrested following a complaint lodged by the victim’s father. Mainpuri district police chief Vinod Kumar confirmed that the woman’s parents claimed she was murdered after refusing to back the Samajwadi Party in the election.

The woman’s father recounted that three days before her death, Prashant Yadav had visited their home and asked her which party she intended to vote for. When she expressed support for the BJP, symbolized by the lotus, citing her family’s benefit from the PM Awas Yojana, Yadav allegedly threatened her and insisted she vote for the SP, whose symbol is the cycle.

In response to the tragic incident, the BJP has accused the Samajwadi Party of being responsible for the woman’s death. State BJP chief Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary condemned the murder in a post on social media, accusing Prashant Yadav and his associates of brutally killing a Dalit woman simply because she refused to support the SP in the elections.
