Security forces launch massive anti-terror operations across 7 Jammu districts

A joint team of security forces launched massive anti-terrorist operations early Tuesday in the upper reaches of seven districts—Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Reasi, and Udhampur—to flush out terrorists hiding in their safe havens.

These operations were initiated based on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of several foreign terrorists in the upper reaches of the Jammu division.

According to official sources, around 23 operations were launched across these district headquarters. The majority of these operations—10 in total—were carried out in the erstwhile district of Doda, followed by seven in the frontier districts of Rajouri and Poonch, and three each in Reasi and Udhampur districts.

Last year, most targeted strikes against Indian Army personnel were carried out by these highly trained and motivated terrorists. After launching surprise attacks, the foreign terrorists often managed to escape without resistance.

According to the Jammu and Kashmir Police, a total of 14 foreign terrorists were neutralized during anti-terrorist operations across the Jammu region. Additionally, 13 terror modules were busted in the region, distributed as follows: Rajouri (1), Poonch (2), Udhampur (3), Reasi (1), Doda (4), and Kathua (2).

Security forces also launched a massive crackdown on overground workers (OGWs), taking action against 827 individuals who were found supporting and arranging logistics for these anti-national elements.

Following a series of targeted attacks on security forces, the Indian Army increased its presence in the Jammu region to prevent further strikes and to strengthen the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan to counter infiltration attempts. The deployment patterns were reviewed, and troops were mobilized to vulnerable areas to launch these anti-terror operations effectively.

The twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch were the worst affected, experiencing repeated ambushes on army trucks and patrol parties since October 2021. Pakistan-based terrorists later extended their operations into other districts, including Reasi, Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar, and Kathua.

To contain the rising incidents of terrorism in the Jammu region, the Union Home Ministry deployed two additional battalions of the Assam Rifles to flush out the Pakistan-trained militants. Additionally, 3,000 army troops and 2,000 BSF personnel were deployed across the region last year to fill operational gaps and launch anti-terror operations in different sectors.
