Police confirm threats as hoaxes following extensive searches

Three hotels located in the temple town of Tirupati received bomb threats via email on Thursday evening, prompting an immediate response from local authorities. Police and sniffer dogs conducted thorough searches at the affected hotels, ultimately confirming that the threats were hoaxes.

The targeted hotels—situated in the Leela Mahal, Kapila Theertham, and Alipiri areas—received emails around 5:30 PM on October 24, 2024. The subject line of the threatening messages read: “Pak ISI to activate Improvised EDs in listed hotels, Evacuated by 11 PM! TN CM involved.”

In their investigation, police are currently working to trace the source of the threats. The emails suggested that “international pressure” had increased due to the arrest of Jaffer Sadiq, a former DMK functionary apprehended in February for alleged drug trafficking in Tamil Nadu. The message implied that “such blats (sic) in schools are necessary to divert the attention away from M K Stalin family’s involvement in the case.”

Despite the initial panic caused by the emails, the thorough searches conducted by police found no evidence of explosives or any immediate danger. Authorities are taking the threats seriously and are continuing their investigation to identify those responsible for the alarming communications.

As the investigation unfolds, local residents and visitors in Tirupati have been reassured that safety measures are in place to ensure the security of the area.
