The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully extradited a terrorist with links to the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), officials confirmed.

Salman Rehman Khan, accused of providing financial and logistical support to militant groups in Bengaluru, was apprehended in Rwanda as part of a covert operation led by the CBI’s Global Operations Centre.

The operation involved close collaboration with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Interpol’s National Central Bureau in Kigali.

Khan is charged with multiple offenses, including criminal conspiracy, membership in a terrorist organization, and material support to LeT. The NIA initiated a case against him in 2023, citing violations of the Arms Act, the Explosive Substances Act, and several terrorism-related provisions.

He is alleged to have played a key role in facilitating the supply of weapons and explosives for terrorist activities in Bengaluru.

The investigation began after a significant arms seizure at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru last year. Authorities uncovered seven pistols, four hand grenades, one magazine, 45 live rounds, and four walkie-talkies during a raid. Further inquiries revealed that the weapons were part of a larger operation aimed at spreading radical ideologies and supporting LeT operations in India.

On October 25, 2023, the NIA took over the case and identified Khan as a crucial player in transporting arms, ammunition, and funds to terror cells operating in Bengaluru.

The case escalated when Interpol issued a Red Notice on August 2, at the request of the CBI. Intelligence later tracked Khan to Rwanda, where a security team from the NIA successfully brought him back to India for prosecution.

This marks the third extradition by the CBI this month. On November 14, Barkat Ali Khan, a wanted criminal in a rioting and explosives case from Mumbai, was extradited from Saudi Arabia, following a Red Notice issued in December 2022. On November 10, Raihan Arabikkalalarikkal, accused of raping a minor in Kerala, was also extradited from Saudi Arabia after a Red Notice was issued in December 2023.

Since 2021, the CBI has facilitated the extradition of 100 fugitives, including 26 in 2024 alone, through Interpol channels.
