Why no U.S. strategy to counter Hinduphobia?

The Biden-Harris administration recently issued the first-ever U.S. National Strategy to Counter Islamophobia and Anti-Arab Hate[1]. Earlier, the National Strategy to Combat Antisemitism was introduced in 2023. However, we ask why no similar initiative has been launched to counter the rising Hinduphobia and anti-Hindu hate that persists, often with tacit support from entities like Equality Labs, George Soros, and Ilhan Omar.

To address this imbalance, we propose a dedicated strategy under the Trump administration in 2025 to defend and protect followers of Sanatan Dharma worldwide. Such a strategy would tackle bias, discrimination, and threats faced by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and other God-fearing communities. For simplicity, we use “Hindu” inclusively to represent all adherents of Sanatan Dharma.

The need for action

The necessity for such a strategy has become increasingly urgent due to:

  1. Rising threats against Hindus:

    • Vandalism of Hindu places of worship.
    • Anti-Hindu rhetoric from extremist groups, including jihadi extremists and Khalistan supporters.
  2. Global atrocities:

    • Recent violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, exacerbated by the Deep State’s support of individuals like Muhammad Yunus, whose Nobel Peace Prize stands at odds with these actions.
  3. Destabilization of Bharat (India):

    • The use of anti-Hindu narratives to undermine India, the world’s largest Hindu-majority nation.

Strategic priorities for the Trump administration

A National Strategy to Combat Hinduphobia should incorporate lessons from existing strategies addressing other forms of hate while focusing on the unique challenges faced by Hindus. Key recommendations include:

  1. Raise awareness about Hinduphobia

    • Broaden recognition of Hindu contributions to America. Hindus have played a vital role in building the United States, yet they face discrimination rooted in stereotypes, fearmongering, and prejudice.
    • Highlight the principles of Sanatan Dharma, such as Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (“The world is one family”), to counter misinformation.
  2. Improve safety and security for Hindus

    • Strengthen security for Hindu communities and places of worship through targeted investments.
    • Tackle transnational repression, doxing, swatting, and hoax threats that endanger Hindu Americans.
    • Simplify access to federal funding for nonprofits seeking to protect their communities.
  3. Address discrimination and protect religious practices

    • Investigate Equality Labs and its role in spreading misleading narratives about caste discrimination, which falsely implicate Hinduism as the origin of caste inequities.
    • Ensure that discrimination against Hindus, including those based on caste, is deemed illegal.
    • Develop resources and training on religious freedom and nondiscrimination for government agencies, corporations, and universities.
    • Take note of the newest research which proves that caste narratives in DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) create bias against Hindus. It prompted the Coalition of Hindus in North America (CoHNA) to ask the many universities, cities, and companies to rethink and make necessary amends to their caste-related policies.
  4. Strengthen community engagement

    • Reduce trust deficits between government agencies and Hindu organizations like CoHNA, Hindu American Foundation (HAF), Vishwa Hindu Parishad of America (VHPA), and others.
    • Share best practices for reporting hate crimes and building cross-community solidarity.
  5. Foster cross-community collaboration

    • Encourage partnerships across diverse faiths to ensure threats against one community are treated as threats against all.
    • Promote collective action to counter hate and strengthen national unity.

Call to action

We urge the Trump administration to prioritize a comprehensive strategy to combat Hinduphobia while ensuring the civil liberties and safety of all Americans. Local, state, and international counterparts, as well as non-governmental organizations, should adopt similar initiatives to foster inclusivity and solidarity.

Simultaneously, we call on Bharat (India) under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership to reinforce U.S.-India strategic ties and demand accountability for threats or discrimination against Hindus globally.

The path forward must affirm shared values of justice, liberty, and equal opportunity for all. Let 2025 mark the beginning of a concerted effort to protect the dignity, heritage, and rights of Hindus in America and worldwide.
