Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Disanayaka, on his first foreign trip since assuming office, began a three-day visit to India on Sunday. He engaged in productive talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. These discussions focused on expanding strategic and bilateral ties between the two nations, especially in areas like trade, investment, energy, and maritime security.

Focus on key bilateral issues

The Sri Lankan leader was warmly welcomed by L Murugan, Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, and other distinguished officials. Disanayaka’s talks with Jaishankar and Doval were centered on fostering cooperation and enhancing relations between the neighboring countries. In his post on ‘X’, Disanayaka shared that the discussions were “fruitful,” reflecting both nations’ shared commitment to strengthening ties. The Indian side is also expected to raise the issue of fulfilling the aspirations of the Tamil community in Sri Lanka during the upcoming discussions between Disanayaka and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
