Mahila Samman Yojana: Delhi govt department’s notice against AAP scheme triggers row

The Department of Women and Child Development and the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Delhi, issued a public notice on Wednesday denying the existence of two purported welfare schemes: the ‘Sanjeevani Scheme‘ and the ‘Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana.’ This comes after AAP leaders, including Chief Minister Atishi and party convener Arvind Kejriwal, visited several areas and launched doorstep registration for schemes.

Clarification on ‘Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana’

The Women and Child Development Department stated it had been alerted through media and social media reports about claims by a political party offering Rs.2,100 per month to women under the ‘Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana.’

The department clarified, “No such scheme has been notified by the Delhi government.” A public notice in national newspapers emphasized that any private person or political party collecting forms or information under this name is committing fraud and has no authority to do so.

Denial of ‘Sanjeevani Scheme’

Similarly, the Health and Family Welfare Department refuted claims promising free medical treatment for individuals aged 60 and above in government or private hospitals, regardless of income criteria. The department termed these promises “misleading and unauthorized,” urging citizens to disregard such claims. It also disclaimed any liability for fraudulent activities related to these false schemes.

AAP’s alleged door-to-door drive

The clarifications come amid the Aam Aadmi Party‘s (AAP) alleged door-to-door registration drive for two welfare schemes:

  • Mahila Samman Yojana’: Promising Rs.2,100 monthly to women.
  • Sanjeevani Yojana’: Assuring free medical treatment for individuals over 60.

Political fallout

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticized AAP and its leader Arvind Kejriwal over the alleged fraudulent schemes. Delhi BJP vice president Kapil Mishra accused Kejriwal of misleading the public, saying, “What a big fraud Kejriwal is committing with the sisters of Delhi. On one side, Kejriwal is getting women to fill forms; on the other side, the Delhi government’s notice says there is no such scheme.”

Mocking Kejriwal, Mishra concluded, “Wah re Farjiwal.”

The Delhi government has urged citizens to remain vigilant against fraudulent claims and clarified it has no association with these non-existent schemes.
