In a significant drug bust, authorities in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh seized heroin valued at over Rs.6.40 crore and arrested three individuals involved in drug trafficking.

On Friday, police in Guwahati arrested two drug peddlers, Sandeep Singh, and Manoj Deka, after seizing 691 grams of heroin hidden in ten soap boxes. The drugs, worth approximately Rs.5.50 crore, were discovered during a police operation near Chandmari flyover, where the suspects were apprehended while traveling on a motorcycle. Officials suspect that the heroin may have been smuggled from Myanmar through Mizoram or Manipur.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the police for their swift action in this case, highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.

Meanwhile, in Arunachal Pradesh, police arrested a drug peddler named Hano Doley, recovering 48.3 grams of heroin valued at Rs 90 lakh. Doley was apprehended in Ziro shortly after arriving from North Lakhimpur in Assam. The heroin was found in 33 plastic vials, and a case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The porous borders of Arunachal Pradesh, stretching 1,817 km and sharing boundaries with China, Myanmar, and Bhutan, make the region vulnerable to drug smuggling, particularly from Myanmar, where various drugs, including heroin and methamphetamine, are trafficked into northeastern India.
