Community demands apology over blackbuck poaching case remarks

The Bishnoi community expressed its outrage on Friday by burning effigies of Bollywood actor Salman Khan and his father, filmmaker Salim Khan. This protest comes in response to Salim Khan’s recent comments asserting his son’s innocence in the blackbuck poaching case, despite the actor’s prior acquittal.

Community members gathered across various locations in Jodhpur to mark the occasion of Bishnoi Dharma Sthapana Diwas. During the protest, participants voiced their frustrations over Salim Khan’s statements, questioning why a legal team from Delhi, Mumbai, and Jodhpur was assembled if Salman Khan was indeed innocent of the charges.

“We, the Bishnois, do not defame anyone without cause. The case against Salman was registered 26 years ago, and many prominent individuals, including the then MLA from our community, were present during that time,” community leaders stated. They expressed deep hurt over Salim Khan’s remarks, emphasizing their commitment to seeking justice in the blackbuck poaching case.

If Salman Khan does not issue a public apology, community members warned of a larger movement organized by the Sanatan Hindu Samaj. “We will take to the streets to ensure that justice is served,” they affirmed.

The community also highlighted that Lawrence Bishnoi, who has been in the news for making threats against Salman Khan, is one of their own and adheres to the community’s 29 rules.

The tensions surrounding the protest have been exacerbated by recent violence, including the assassination of NCP leader Baba Siddique. Following this incident, Salman Khan’s security has been heightened due to threats received from gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, whose brother, Anmol Bishnoi, was reportedly in contact with the shooters involved in the killing.

The Bishnoi community continues to rally for accountability and justice in the ongoing discourse surrounding the blackbuck poaching case, making it clear that they will not back down until their voices are heard.
