Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir gears up for its first Diwali

Ayodhya is gearing up for its eighth Deepotsav celebration and the first one at the newly built Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple. The Uttar Pradesh government is planning a spectacular display at the newly constructed temple, making this Deepotsav a historic event.

This year’s festival will feature a remarkable 28 lakh diyas lighting up the banks of the Saryu River, creating a stunning visual spectacle while emphasizing environmental sustainability.

In an effort to set a new world record, special eco-friendly lamps will illuminate the Ram temple. These lamps are designed to minimize soot and stains, ensuring the temple’s pristine condition. The initiative highlights a commitment to environmental stewardship, with special wax lamps being used to reduce carbon emissions.

The temple complex will be adorned with elaborate floral decorations, and different sections have been designated for various decoration responsibilities. The overall organization and cleanliness efforts are led by Ashu Shukla, a retired Inspector General from Bihar.

The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra aims to transform Ayodhya into not just a religious hub but also a symbol of cleanliness and ecological awareness this Diwali. To facilitate this, the temple will be open for ‘Bhavan Darshan‘ from October 29 to November 1, allowing visitors to admire the decorations until midnight.

Professor Pratibha Goyal, Vice Chancellor of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University, is coordinating the efforts with a large team of over 30,000 volunteers. These volunteers are decorating 55 ghats along the Saryu River, working under the guidance of more than 2,000 supervisors and coordinators.

A standout feature of the celebration will be a Swastik symbol crafted from 80,000 diyas at ghat number 10 of Ram Ki Paidi, created by a dedicated group of over 150 volunteers. This installation is expected to be a highlight of the festivities.

On October 30, during Chhoti Diwali, a world record will be attempted as the 28 lakh diyas are lit in the evening. Volunteers, organized into teams, have been meticulously arranging the diyas in 16×16 grids, each containing 256 diyas, while chanting “Jai Shri Ram.”

Support for the volunteers is comprehensive, with provisions for clean drinking water and food available at the Bhajan Sandhya venue. Dinesh Kumar Maurya, Deputy Registrar of the university, is working closely with the Municipal Corporation to maintain cleanliness at the ghats.

Each diya will be filled with 30 ml of mustard oil, ensuring a long-lasting burn, with careful supervision throughout the process. The arrangement is set to be completed by October 28, with a counting process scheduled for the following day.

The consecration of the Ram Lalla idol at the Ayodhya temple on January 22 marked a significant milestone, officiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who emphasized the importance of building a “strong, capable and divine” India alongside the construction of the grand temple.

As Ayodhya prepares for this grand Diwali celebration, the event promises to convey a message of faith, unity, and environmental consciousness, positioning the city as a global symbol of devotion and hope.
