Massive anti-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir targeting JeM, LeT networks

In a major anti-terror operation, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have carried out a series of raids across the Jammu region, targeting terrorist networks linked to Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The operation, conducted in the early hours of Wednesday, led to multiple arrests, the seizure of weapons, ammunition, and incriminating materials, and the disruption of terror activities in the region.

Anand Jain, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for Jammu, briefed the media on the operation, revealing that raids were conducted at 56 locations across four districts. The extensive operation resulted in the arrest of several Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and terror suspects involved in supporting the terrorist outfits.

“We have conducted raids in areas including Darhal, Kalakote, Manjakote, and Dharamsal in Rajouri district, as well as in Poonch, Udhampur, and Reasi districts, based on specific intelligence inputs,” Jain said. “During the searches, we recovered a variety of incriminating materials, including electronic devices, documents, unaccounted cash, weapons, and ammunition. The investigations will continue based on the information gathered during the raids, and further operations are planned.”

The police emphasized that the operation was part of an ongoing effort to dismantle the terror ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir. The arrested individuals are suspected of playing roles in logistics, recruitment, and facilitating the movement of arms, ammunition, and funds for the terror groups.

The crackdown was designed to neutralize the remaining elements of these networks attempting to disrupt peace in the region.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Ajay Sharma highlighted the importance of public cooperation in eliminating terror networks. “The role of the general public is crucial in eradicating the terror ecosystem,” Sharma stated. “We have received excellent support from the local communities. People approach us with information, especially when they notice anything suspicious.”

The operation also focused on two separate terror cases involving active terrorist networks in the border districts. One case is linked to an investigation at Thannamandi Police Station from 2013, while the other relates to a recent case registered at Rajouri Police Station this year. Both cases involve JeM and LeT’s attempts to activate OGWs for carrying out terror-related activities in the region.

Police in Udhampur district conducted extensive raids at 25 locations in the Basantgarh area, while ten more searches were carried out in Reasi district. These raids were part of a larger investigation into a terror case registered at the Basantgarh Police Station. Authorities said that all operations were carried out with careful planning to avoid harm to innocent civilians.

“The operation has been successful in arresting several OGWs and terror suspects while ensuring minimal disruption to civilian life,” the police statement concluded.
