Pak Army violates ceasefire in J&K’s in Poonch

The Indian Army on Wednesday accused Pakistan of violating the ceasefire agreement by resorting to ‘unprovoked’ firing and intruding into Jammu and Kashmir‘s Poonch district to trigger landmine blasts.

In response, the Indian Army retaliated strongly, inflicting critical injuries to several Pakistani soldiers deployed on some of the forward posts across the Line of Control (LoC).

“On 01 Apr 25, a mine blast occurred in the Krishna Ghati Sector due to Pakistan Army intrusion across the LoC. This was followed by unprovoked firing and a ceasefire violation by the Pakistan Army. Own troops responded effectively in a controlled and calibrated manner. The situation is under control and being closely monitored,” a Jammu-based spokesperson of the Ministry of Defence said in a written statement.

“Indian Army reiterates the importance of upholding the tenets of DGsMO understanding of 2021 to maintain peace along the Line of Control,” the official added.

The incident was reported on a day when the Nagrota-based White Knight Corps witnessed a change of guard.

Lt. Gen P K Mishra took over the Command of #WhiteKnightCorps from Lt. Gen Navin Sachdeva. The Corps Commander urged all ranks to uphold the highest standards of operational excellence and continue fostering peace and stability in the region.

Since March 23, the entire Jammu region has been witnessing anti-terror operations to neutralize Pakistani terrorists roaming freely in the upper reaches of Kathua.

According to Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, a group of terrorists was spotted by a couple in the Sanyal village of Hiranagar on March 23, after which a local police party cordoned off the area and engaged with the terrorists. Taking advantage of the thick foliage and dark conditions, the terrorists managed to slip past the security forces. After a gap of four days, the terrorists came face to face with the security forces in the Juthana forest area of Kathua. During the two-day-long encounter, the security forces gunned down two terrorists while at least three others managed to run away to safety. Four jawans of the Jammu and Kashmir police sacrificed their lives in the anti-terror operation.

The anti-terror operations led by the DGP J&K police were further intensified and expanded to adjoining areas after the same group of terrorists came in close contact with the local villagers and demanded food and water from them without causing any harm to them.

A fresh contact was made late Monday evening in the Panjthirthi area of Kathua. The operation is still on to track down the footprints of these terrorists.

Meanwhile, the Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Jammu and Kashmir on April 7-8 to conduct a high-level review of the prevailing security situation and take measures to “step up” the fight against terrorism.

The Union Home Minister is also expected to visit forward areas along the International border in Jammu before leaving for Srinagar.
