Drone captures Yahya Sinwar’s final moments

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have released drone footage purporting to show the final moments of Yahya Sinwar, the chief of Hamas, who was killed in an operation on October 17.

Drone footage released by the military showed Sinwar alone in a blown-up apartment, with one hand severely injured and his head covered in a traditional scarf, throwing a stick at the approaching drone during his final moments.

In a statement, Foreign Minister Israel Katz labeled Sinwar a “mass murderer” responsible for the horrific events of October 7, which included widespread violence against Israeli civilians. Katz emphasized that Sinwar’s elimination is a significant achievement for the IDF.

IDF spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari addressed the media regarding the operation, stating, “Sinwar was responsible for the most brutal attack against Israel in our history.”

He recounted how Hamas militants invaded Israeli homes, perpetrating atrocities, and taking over 250 hostages, with 101 still unaccounted for after a year in captivity.

Hagari noted that Sinwar attempted to evade justice but ultimately failed. He underscored the IDF’s focus, stating, “Our war is with Hamas, not with the people of Gaza, and we mean it.” He also highlighted ongoing efforts to increase humanitarian aid to Gaza, ensuring that assistance reaches civilians suffering due to Sinwar’s actions.

Expressing condolences to the families affected by the violence, Hagari remarked on the sacrifices made by IDF soldiers in the defense of Israel. He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to not rest until all hostages are brought home.

Israel’s prime minister on Thursday celebrated the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, saying “evil suffered a heavy blow” and that his death marked an important landmark in the Palestinian group‘s decline.

“Today evil has suffered a heavy blow,” said Benjamin Netanyahu in a video statement, adding: “His elimination is an important landmark in the decline of the evil rule of Hamas.”

Sinwar in August replaced Hamas’s former chief Ismail Haniyeh, who was killed in Iran on July 31. Israel has not commented on Haniyeh’s death.

The IDF remains steadfast in its operational objectives, declaring, “We will continue to operate until we complete all our missions in defense of the people of Israel.”
