Eknath Shinde criticizes Uddhav Thackeray ahead of Assembly polls

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has accused former Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray of prioritizing his personal interests over party loyalty, leading to the split within the Shiv Sena. As the state approaches assembly elections, Shinde asserted that the previous Mahavikas Aghadi government diverged from the foundational ideals of Balasaheb Thackeray, while emphasizing that the alliance between Shiv Sena and the BJP represents a more suitable path forward.

In an exclusive interview with news agency ANI, Shinde explained his rationale for the split, stating that Uddhav’s decision to ally with the Congress party went against Balasaheb’s vision. “As Shiv Sena workers, we followed party discipline and realized the need for change,” he noted, adding that attempts to form a coalition government with the BJP were initially unsuccessful, but ultimately necessary to address the frustrations of party MLAs who felt that no meaningful work was being accomplished in their constituencies.

Highlighting the achievements of the current Mahayuti government, Shinde expressed pride in prioritizing public welfare over personal gain. He stated that under his administration, stalled projects initiated by the previous government have been restarted, contributing to Maharashtra’s economic growth.

“Our government has attracted over Rs.5 lakh crore in investments, achieving significant progress in GDP, FDI, GST, and cleanliness,” he remarked. Shinde also pointed to various welfare initiatives, including the Ladli Bahna Yojana, which provides stipends and free higher education for girls.

Responding to accusations from the opposition that his government operates as a puppet of the Central government, Shinde defended the benefits that Maharashtra has received since the coalition with the BJP was formed. He stated that the coordination between the central and state governments has been beneficial for the state’s development.

Shinde emphasized his commitment to serving the common people, stating, “For me, being CM means serving the people, not just running the government through Facebook Live.” He reassured constituents that his government was responsive and attentive to their needs.

The Maharashtra Assembly elections are scheduled for November 20, with vote counting set for November 23.
