Key Maoist leaders Bhadru, Madhu among seven killed in Mulugu encounter

In Telangana‘s Mulugu district, a police encounter on Sunday resulted in the deaths of seven Maoists, including significant leaders of the Communist Party of India (Maoist). The confrontation occurred at 5:30 a.m. in the Chalapaka forest area of Eturnagaram mandal during a combing operation by the elite Greyhounds anti-Maoist force.

Police recovered two AK-47 rifles, explosives, and other weaponry from the site. Authorities suspect one of the deceased is Badru, a senior leader and secretary of the Yellandu-Narasampeta Area Committee, who was also a member of the Telangana State Committee of the banned CPI (Maoist).

The encounter began when Greyhounds personnel came across a Maoist group and demanded their surrender. The Maoists responded with gunfire, leading to a fierce exchange. Police reported no casualties on their side.

Background on Maoist activity

The region has seen heightened Maoist activities, including a violent incident on November 21 in Wajedu Mandal, where Maoists executed two men—Uika Ramesh and Uika Arjun—on suspicion of being police informers. A note left at the crime scene accused the victims of collaborating with the Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB).
