The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will hold a crucial legislature party meeting in Mumbai today to resolve the ongoing impasse over the selection of Maharashtra’s next Chief Minister. The meeting comes over 10 days after the ruling MahaYuti alliance secured a resounding victory in the state Assembly elections, defeating the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi.

Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani have been appointed as central observers for the meeting, scheduled for 10 am.

The discussions are expected to pave the way for the formation of a new government, with BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis likely to take over as Chief Minister.

Following the meeting, Fadnavis, along with caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and NCP leader Ajit Pawar, will meet Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan to formally stake their claim to form the Mahayuti 2.0 government.

On Tuesday evening, Fadnavis held an important in-person meeting with Shinde, marking their first face-to-face discussion since their talks in Delhi last week about government formation. Sources suggest that Shinde has agreed to serve as Deputy Chief Minister in the new administration.

Meanwhile, preparations for the swearing-in ceremony are underway at Azad Maidan in Mumbai, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to attend, alongside around 2,000 VVIPs and an expected crowd of 40,000 supporters.

The Mahayuti alliance secured a landslide victory in assembly elections, securing 230 of the 288 Assembly seats. The BJP emerged as the single largest party with 132 seats, followed by Shinde’s Shiv Sena with 57 and Ajit Pawar’s NCP with 41.
