Sudhanshu Trivedi questions Congress on ties with George Soros

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) intensified its attack on the Congress on Monday, accusing its senior leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, of colluding with foreign forces allegedly working to destabilize India. At a press conference held at the BJP headquarters, national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi claimed that Sonia Gandhi is the co-president of the Forum of Democratic Leaders in the Asia-Pacific (FDL-AP), an organization purportedly funded by the George Soros Foundation.

Trivedi alleged that the FDL-AP has issued anti-India and pro-Pakistan statements while praising former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan. He claimed that the organization receives financial backing from billionaire investor George Soros, who has publicly pledged $1 billion toward efforts allegedly aimed at “destabilizing the Modi government.”

“Sonia Gandhi’s name appears as the co-president of the FDL-AP. Today, on her birthday, we most humbly ask why she accepted this role. What is the Congress-Soros connection?” Trivedi asked.

He further accused the Congress of maintaining ties with organizations that “interfere in India’s internal affairs” and demanded that Sonia Gandhi disclose her role in the organization’s activities.

Foreign influence allegations

According to the BJP, the FDL-AP has been linked to statements undermining India’s interests, particularly concerning the Kashmir issue. Trivedi asked whether Congress leaders were aware of the anti-India activities allegedly carried out by the organization.

“Is the Congress Party working with foreign-funded outfits to destabilize the country?” he questioned, emphasizing that the BJP would continue raising the matter in Parliament.

Pattern of disruptive reports, says BJP

Trivedi further alleged that strategically timed international reports and incidents repeatedly surfaced ahead of major Parliament sessions, hinting at a “systematic anti-India experiment.” He cited multiple examples, including:

• Farmers’ Report: Released on February 3, 2021, during the Parliament session.
• Pegasus Report: Surfaced on July 18, 2021, ahead of the Monsoon session.
• Hindenburg Report: Came out on January 24, 2023, before the Budget session.
• BBC Documentary: Released on January 17, 2023, days before the Budget session.
• Manipur Video Leak: Occurred just before the Monsoon session in July 2023.
• SEBI Chief Report: Published in August 2024, amid the Parliament session.
• US-Based Report: Emerged on November 20, 2024, just ahead of the Winter session.

“These are not coincidences but part of a coordinated anti-India strategy,” Trivedi asserted.

Demand for Parliamentary debate

Proceedings in the Rajya Sabha were disrupted on Monday as BJP MPs demanded a discussion on the alleged Congress-Soros connection. The opposition rejected the demand, calling it an attempt to divert from pressing national issues.

Trivedi concluded, “We demand clear answers from the Congress Party and Sonia Gandhi. What is your link with the FDL-AP, and why is George Soros funding an organization where you are a co-president?”
