Trudeau’s epic fail, says “no hard proof” against India over baseless charges

In a scathing rebuke, India has criticized Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for his “cavalier attitude” regarding allegations of Indian involvement in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Following Trudeau’s admission that he possessed only “intelligence-based speculation” and no “hard evidentiary proof,” India’s Ministry of External Affairs issued a sharp statement highlighting the lack of evidence presented by Canada to support its serious claims.

India’s Foreign Ministry stated late Tuesday, “What we have heard today only confirms what we have been saying consistently all along — Canada has presented us no evidence whatsoever in support of the serious allegations that it has chosen to level against India and Indian diplomats.” This statement underscores a growing frustration with Trudeau’s approach, which India claims is exacerbating an already strained diplomatic relationship.

The statement placed the blame for the ongoing diplomatic standoff squarely on Trudeau’s shoulders. “The responsibility for the damage that this cavalier behaviour has caused to India-Canada relations lies with Prime Minister Trudeau alone,” it emphasized. This criticism comes after a series of tit-for-tat expulsions of diplomats that have marked a new low in bilateral relations.

Trudeau’s remarks were made during his testimony at a parliamentary inquiry into foreign interference, where he accused Indian representatives of attempting to silence critics of Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s government in Canada. However, his admission that the allegations against India are largely based on intelligence rather than concrete evidence has raised questions about the validity of his claims.

During the inquiry, Trudeau acknowledged that when Canadian agencies requested India investigate the allegations, New Delhi sought proof, which Trudeau conceded was “primarily intelligence, not hard evidentiary proof.” This lack of substantiation has fueled India’s assertion that Canada’s accusations are unfounded.

The escalating diplomatic row has seen both countries trading accusations of mismanagement, with India repeatedly challenging Canada to present credible evidence for its claims.
