A provocative social media post by a local youth has led to heightened tensions in the Yakutpura area of old Hyderabad, with clashes reported on Sunday night.

The situation arose when a young man allegedly shared communal messages and images on his Instagram account, inciting hatred between Hindus and Muslims.

The incident occurred under the limits of Rein Bazar Police Station of South Zone as some people came out on the streets to protest against the provocation.

The police were alerted to the post, prompting a swift response. Deputy Commissioner of Police Sneha Mehra stated, “We are actively searching for the individual responsible. Immediate action will be taken.”

As tensions mounted, over 3,000 people gathered for a rally in response to the provocative post, despite lacking the necessary permissions. DCP S. Rashmi Perumal reported that the crowd became aggressive, splitting into two factions—one attempting to march towards a local mosque, while the other targeted the Metropolis hotel, reportedly with intentions to vandalize.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner C V Anand addressed the situation on social media, sharing videos that depicted protesters clashing with police. He clarified that police used lathi charges in response to escalating violence, stating, “We’ve seen posts about police actions against ‘peaceful protesters.’ These videos show the reality of how events unfolded and the need for police intervention to maintain law and order.”

The Commissioner urged the public not to accept narratives suggesting that police actions were directed at peaceful demonstrators, emphasizing that there are multiple perspectives to every situation.

As the police continue to monitor the situation, community leaders are calling for calm and urging residents to refrain from escalating tensions. The incident highlights ongoing challenges related to communal harmony in the region, and authorities are committed to ensuring peace and stability.
