The latest threat to passengers is a desperate move by Khalistani terrorist Pannun

Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, founder of the separatist group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), issued a disturbing warning on Monday, advising passengers against flying on Air India flights from November 1 to 19. Pannun claimed that an attack could occur during this period, coinciding with the “40th anniversary of the Sikh genocide.” This latest threat adds to a troubling pattern of extremism and intimidation.

Pannun, who holds dual citizenship in Canada and the US, has a history of making similar threats. Just last year, he made alarming proclamations around the same time, which raised serious concerns about the safety of air travel. His rhetoric comes amidst a backdrop of heightened security alerts, as several airlines in India have received hoax bomb threat calls recently. The timing of Pannun’s comments also coincides with escalating diplomatic tensions between India and Canada, sparked by allegations of Indian government actions against Khalistani elements, including the murder of another terrorist, Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

In November 2023, Pannun released a video threatening that Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport would be closed on November 19, warning people not to fly on Air India that day. He is already facing serious legal repercussions, as the National Investigation Agency has charged him with criminal conspiracy, promoting religious enmity, and multiple offenses under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

This is not the first time Pannun has made threatening statements. In December last year, he threatened to attack the Indian Parliament, linking his threats to an alleged foiled plot against him. He also issued chilling threats against Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the state’s Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, calling for violence on Republic Day this year.

Pannun has been designated a terrorist by India’s Ministry of Home Affairs since July 2020, facing charges of sedition and secessionism. Under his leadership, SFJ has been banned as an “unlawful association” for its anti-national activities aimed at establishing a separate Sikh state.

Adding further complexity to the situation, on October 17, the United States charged a former officer of India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) in connection with a foiled plot to murder Pannun. New Delhi has categorically rejected these allegations as baseless.

Pannun’s ongoing threats are not only reckless but also reflect a dangerous mindset that seeks to incite fear and violence. His actions undermine the safety of ordinary citizens and escalate an already volatile situation in the region. As India grapples with these extremist challenges, the international community must remain vigilant and supportive of efforts to combat terrorism in all its forms.
