Crackdown on terror networks in J&K’s Kathua

In a significant operation, Jammu and Kashmir police, supported by the CRPF, arrested 10 overground workers (OGWs) linked to various terror groups in Kathua district on Thursday. The arrests followed a large-scale crackdown across four districts of the Jammu division, targeting the terror ecosystem in the region.

The operation, which covered 17 locations in areas including Malhar, Bani, Billawar, Kana Chak, Haria Chak, Sorak pain, and Chak Wajir in Kathua, was carried out in connection with three First Information Reports (FIRs) related to recent terror incidents registered at the Malhar, Billawar, and Bani police stations.

According to officials, the well-planned operation led to the identification and arrest of the terror suspects, with several electronic devices seized during the raids.

This crackdown comes on the heels of recent successful anti-terror operations, during which three foreign terrorists affiliated with the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) group were killed in two separate encounters in Kathua and the adjoining Basantgarh area in Udhampur district.

Authorities in the Jammu division have been intensifying their efforts against terror networks, particularly those linked to JeM and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

Over the past few weeks, more than 56 raids have been conducted in districts such as Rajouri, Poonch, Udhampur, and Reasi.

These operations have led to the arrest of multiple OGWs and terror suspects, along with the recovery of incriminating materials, including electronic devices, documents, unaccounted cash, weapons, and ammunition.

The latest security operations come after a series of high-profile terrorist attacks in the region. Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, in two recent high-level meetings, directed security forces to take aggressive action against all elements of the terror ecosystem, which includes not only terrorists but also their sympathizers, OGWs, and harbourers.

These orders were issued in response to a string of deadly attacks, including the killings of seven workers from an infrastructure company in Gagangir (Ganderbal) on October 20, the deaths of three soldiers and two civilian porters in Gulmarg on October 24, and the fatal grenade attack in Srinagar’s Sunday market on November 2, which killed one woman and injured nine others.
