Maharashtra transfers 14 senior officers after ECI expresses concern over non-compliance

In response to the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) directive, the Maharashtra government has transferred 14 officers holding the rank of Deputy Secretaries and Joint Secretaries across various departments. This move follows the ECI’s visit to the state from September 26 to 28, during which it expressed serious concern over the state government’s failure to comply with directives regarding the transfer of government officials and police personnel who had served in the same position for three years or had been stationed in one district for an extended period.

The transfers come ahead of the ECI’s announcement of the State Assembly election schedule, which is expected later today. State Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik and State Director General of Police Rashi Shukla have both assured compliance with the ECI’s guidelines.

Among the key transfers, Vyankatesh Bhat, Joint Secretary in the Home Department, has been reassigned to the Industry, Energy, Labour and Mining Department. Atul Kide from the Revenue and Forest Department will now serve in the Planning Department, while Uddhav Dahiphale from the Water Resources Department has been moved to the Energy, Labour, and Mining Department. Additionally, Sanjay Degavkar and Prashant Badgering, Joint Secretaries from the Industry, Energy, Labour, and Mining Department, have been transferred to the Public Works Department and Home Department, respectively.

Other notable transfers include Santosh Khorgade from the Cooperation, Marketing, and Textile Department to the Higher and Technical Education Department; Kailas Bilonikar from the Chief Minister’s Office to the Water Resources Department; and Mangesh Shinde from the School Education Minister’s Office to the Schools Education and Sports Department.

The Deputy Secretary in the Higher and Technical Departments, Satish Tidke, has been moved to the Cooperation, Marketing, and Textile Department, while Sunil Tumbare from the Home Department will now serve in the General Administration Department. Additionally, Pandit Jadhav, Deputy Secretary in the Rural Development Department, has been reassigned to the Home Department.

Furthermore, the State government has also transferred 24 Under Secretaries from various departments as part of this restructuring effort.
