Priyanka Gandhi’s affidavit omits many details

Priyanka Gandhi’s affidavit filed for the Lok Sabha election from Wayanad Constituency on Wednesday shows that she has not declared the London-based property owned by her husband Robert Vadra, who is facing a probe by the Enforcement Directorate. Priyanka also has not declared her shares in Associate Journals Limited, publisher of the National Herald newspaper.

“To fulfill the objective of acquiring 100 percent shares of the AJL, one of the majority shareholders of the assessee (Young Indian), Rahul, along with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, had purchased additional 47,513 and 2,62,411 shares through Rattan Deep Trust and Janhit Nidhi Trust respectively without complying to Companies Act,” said the Income Tax Department’s Assessment Order in 2018. This 105-page Assessment Order is produced in Court by the main petitioner Subramanian Swamy in the National Herald case.[1]

Robert Vadra’s London property was found by the ED in the probe against fugitive arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari. Vadra was summoned by the ED many times over the ownership of the property at 12, Bryanston Square in London. ED also probed Vadras’ links on the property at 5, Grosvenor Hill Court, 13 Bourdon Street in London.[2]

As per the affidavit, Priyanka has Rs.12 crore worth of assets and her husband Vadra owns Rs.66 crore worth of assets. Meanwhile, Robert Vadra is facing an Income Tax case of Rs.80 crore dues and pending appeals. Priyanka also has around Rs.8 lakh in Income Tax dues and pending appeals before Tax Tribunals.

Interestingly as per his wife’s affidavit, Robert Vadra who faced allegations of land grabbing and grabbing of agricultural lands also now has no such lands in his name. Robert Vadra faced a series of charges for land grabbing and as per Priyanka’s affidavit, Vadra has no agricultural and non-agricultural lands now. Sounds interesting. The SN Dhingra Commission had detailed a land-grabbing case by Robert Vadra in association with real estate firms like DLF.[3]

Priyanka Gandhi, who was the Director of many controversial companies along with Robert Vadra. She was caught in May 2014 for holding two DINs (Director Identification Numbers). Holding more than one DIN is an illegal and punishable offence. After BJP leader Subramanian Swamy’s complaint, she apologized and paid a fine, and surrendered one illegal DIN. At present, as per the affidavit, Priyanka is not the Director of any companies.[4]
