Ahmedabad Police detain 51 Bangladeshi nationals over forgery, human trafficking

In a significant operation, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch has detained 51 suspected illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and rescued minors who were allegedly forced into prostitution.

This crackdown follows the uncovering of two interconnected cases involving forged identity documents and human trafficking.

Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi praised the efforts of the Crime Branch on social media, stating, “Kudos to the Ahmedabad Crime Branch! Based on thorough investigations into ongoing forgery and counterfeit document cases, 51 illegal Bangladeshi citizens have been detained. Legal procedures have begun, and they will be sent back to Bangladesh.”

The first case, filed under sections 465, 467, and 468 of the Indian Penal Code, revealed a criminal network purportedly led by Faruk Mondal, involved in the production of forged documents to create false identities. Both Mondal and an accomplice have been arrested, and authorities are currently examining over 200 suspected forged documents as part of the investigation.

In a parallel effort, the Crime Branch registered another FIR under the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act and the POCSO Act, focusing on a human trafficking case where minor girls were trafficked and coerced into prostitution. Following a series of raids on locations believed to house the minors, several were successfully rescued. Initial investigations suggest that more than 100 women may have been exploited in this scheme, with proceeds being funneled back to Bangladesh.

As the investigation unfolds, financial records are being analyzed to trace the criminal network’s earnings. In subsequent operations around Chandola Lake, the Crime Branch detained the 51 illegal immigrants found residing without legal documentation. Additionally, approximately 150 individuals are currently under interrogation as part of a citywide crackdown on unlawful activities.

The coordinated efforts by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch highlight the ongoing battle against human trafficking and illegal immigration in Gujarat, showcasing the determination of law enforcement to dismantle such criminal enterprises.
