‘Priyanka Gandhi concealed asset details,’ BJP candidate moves Kerala HC against Wayanad MP’s poll

BJP candidate Navya Haridas has moved the Kerala High Court challenging the recent election victory of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in the November 13 bypoll. In her petition before the High Court, Haridas contended that Gandhi, while submitting her nomination papers, had suppressed vital information regarding the various assets owned by her and her family.

PGurus reported that Priyanka had hidden a lot of facts about her and her husband Robert Vadra’s assets in the election affidavit. In the affidavit, Priyanka has not shown her shares in the controversial company Associated Journals Limited, publisher of the National Herald newspaper. Her husband Robert Vadra’s foreign assets were also not shown.[1]

Navya Haridas also contested the election from the same constituency but lost to Gandhi by a margin of 512,399 votes. She finished a distant third, behind Sathyan Mokeri of the Communist Party of India.

In the petition challenging Priyanka Gandhi’s victory, BJP candidate Navya alleged that Priyanka misled, misinformed, and kept voters in the dark with the intent of influencing their choice.

The petition has also alleged that Priyanka, on several occasions, exercised undue influence on the voters and engaged in corrupt practices as defined under the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

The nomination paper was in violation of the mandates under the election laws and conduct of election rules, Navya Haridas has argued, seeking to set aside the victory of Priyanka Gandhi. Advocate Hari Kumar G Nair will appear for Navya Haridas.
