Delhi Police registers a case after suspicious vehicle intercepted

Delhi Police registered a case late Wednesday after discovering cash, liquor, and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) pamphlets inside a vehicle labeled as belonging to the “Punjab Government.” Officials stated that the vehicle, which had a Punjab number plate, was stopped by the Flying Squad near Punjab Bhavan on Copernicus Marg in New Delhi.

The Flying Squad, responsible for handling Model Code of Conduct violations and complaints related to liquor, arms, and cash used in elections, initiated the search.

Contents found inside the vehicle

On Wednesday night, the Tilak Marg police station was alerted about a suspicious vehicle with a ‘PB’ registration number and ‘Punjab Sarkar‘ written on it. Upon inspection, authorities found:

• AAP pamphlets
• Multiple liquor bottles
• Cash worth lakhs

Delhi Police confirmed that legal proceedings had been initiated, and a case was registered at Tilak Marg police station.

Punjab Government denies ownership of vehicle

In response to the incident, the Punjab government issued a statement clarifying that the vehicle intercepted by Delhi Police did not belong to the state government. Officials noted that the registration number, ‘PB35AE1342‘, was assigned to a 2018 Ford EcoSport, while the seized vehicle was a Hyundai Creta.

Authorities also pointed out that the number plate on the intercepted vehicle was forged and did not meet the standards of a High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP), which is mandatory for all vehicles.

“We have checked official records and confirmed that no such vehicle is owned or hired by the Punjab Government,” the statement added.

AAP dismisses allegations as ‘planted stunt’

AAP dismissed the claims as “fake and laughable.” In a statement, the party asserted that the vehicle’s registration number belonged to a Hyundai Creta, a different model from the one seized.

The party also stated that there was no entry record of the vehicle at Punjab Bhavan and alleged that it had been “conveniently parked with no driver in sight.” AAP further claimed that the registered owner was originally from Pune but currently resides in Punjabi Bagh.

Calling the incident a “poorly executed planted stunt,” AAP accused its political opponents of fabricating the controversy to tarnish its image.

BJP reacts to the incident

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva reacted strongly to the development. In a statement, he expressed shock and accused AAP of corruption.

“Rs.10 lakh in cash, liquor, and AAP election material were found in a Punjab Government car in Delhi. Until now, we believed Arvind Kejriwal institutionalized corruption in Delhi, polluted the Yamuna and degraded Delhi’s air quality. Today, we realize he has polluted Delhi’s political system as well,” Sachdeva stated.

The case remains under investigation, with authorities working to verify the origins of the vehicle and the items found inside.
