7 heavily armed infiltrators, including 2 Pak Army regulars, killed in landmine blast

Ahead of the Kashmir Solidarity Day, celebrated every year in Pakistan on February 5, the Indian Army repulsed a surprise attack by the Border Action Team (BAT), comprising heavily armed terrorists and Pakistan army regulars while they were attempting to cross the Line of Control (LoC) in the Battal area of Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district in the early hours of Wednesday.

According to preliminary reports, the members of the BAT team were blown over in tatters after one of the members accidentally stepped on a landmine before crossing the LoC.

Around seven infiltrators including two Pakistan army regulars received fatal injuries following a landmine blast around 2.30 a.m on Wednesday.

Ground reports indicated the Improvised explosive devices carried by the BAT team also exploded inflicting grievous injuries to the heavily armed infiltrators.

Till the time of filing the report, the Indian Army had not made any official statement confirming the actual death toll.

A Jammu-based spokesman of the Ministry of Defence said an explosion was heard along the Line of Control in the Battal area of Mendhar around 2.30 a.m. on Wednesday.

According to official sources, at least seven infiltrators were killed in the powerful landmine explosion ahead of the barbed wire fence.

Taking advantage of the local conditions, Pakistan army regulars reportedly dragged the dead bodies inside the Pakistani territory. The Indian troops, despite spotting the dead bodies close to the Line of Control, could not retrieve them to avoid any collateral damage.

Following the landmine blast, the troops of the Indian Army have been maintaining a tight vigil along the Line of Control to thwart infiltration bids.

Several joint teams of the security forces have launched massive combing and search operations in the upper reaches of seven districts across the Jammu region to track down the footprints of the Pakistani terrorists hiding inside their safe hideouts in the thickly forested areas.

On January 31, the Indian army neutralized two heavily armed Pakistani terrorists along the Line of Control in the Khari Karmara area of Poonch.

Meanwhile, the Union Home Minister Amit Shah who chaired a high-level security review meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday directed all security agencies to step up the fight against terrorism by aiming for the ‘zero infiltration’ goal.
