3 Indians missing, government raises issue with Iran

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed on Friday that three Indian nationals who traveled to Iran for business purposes have gone missing. The Indian government has raised the issue with Iranian authorities and remains in close contact with the families of the missing individuals.

MEA engages Iran to locate missing Indians

MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal provided an update on the situation during a weekly press briefing:

Three Indian nationals who had gone to Iran for business purposes are missing. We are in touch with their families. We have taken up the matter with the Iranian Embassy in Delhi and with the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tehran.

He further assured that:

MEA and the Indian Embassy in Tehran remain in touch with Iranian authorities and have requested their assistance in locating the missing nationals and ensuring their safety.

Maharashtra businessman among the missing Indians

Among the missing individuals is Yogesh Panchal, a 33-year-old businessman from Nanded, Maharashtra. Panchal had recently started an export firm dealing in dry fruits and apples and traveled to Iran on December 5 to explore business opportunities.

  • Last Contact: Panchal spoke with his wife, Shradha, on December 7 while in a crowded place and promised to call back soon. However, the call never came.
  • Disappearance: His phone continued ringing without a response for two days until it was switched off on December 9.
  • Planned Return: Panchal had booked a return flight for December 11, but never arrived back in India.

Family appeals for help

Shradha, who is caring for their six-year-old child, remains hopeful about finding her husband.

We have been trying everything to locate him. I am in touch with the local MP and authorities,” she said.

India ramps up efforts to locate missing citizens

The MEA has strongly raised the matter with Iran, urging swift action to track and ensure the safety of the missing Indian nationals. The government continues to coordinate with Tehran and remains committed to assisting the affected families during this distressing time.
