Major administrative reshuffle in Uttarakhand; Many IAS officers got new responsibilities
In a significant shake-up within the Uttarakhand administration, the State government on Wednesday transferred 45 officials, including 39 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers and six Provincial Civil Service (PCS) officers. The reshuffle also involves the reorganization of several key portfolios.
Principal Secretary transfers
- Ramesh Kumar Sudhanshu, a 1997 batch IAS officer, has been relieved from his role as Principal Secretary of the Revenue Department. He will, however, continue as Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister and Principal Secretary for the Department of Forest, Environment Protection, and Climate Change.
- Lalrinliana Fanai, another 1997 batch IAS officer, has been replaced by Ranjit Kumar Sinha. Sinha will now serve as Principal Secretary for Minority Welfare and Chairman of the Minority Welfare and Waqf Development Corporation. Fanai will take over as Principal Secretary of the Excise Department and the Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Department, while also assuming the role of Chairman of the State Transport Department.
Secretary-level changes
- R Meenakshi Sundaram, the Chief Minister’s Secretary, has been replaced by Deepak Rawat.
- Ravinath Raman has been appointed as Higher Education Secretary, replacing Shailesh Bagauli.
- Pankaj Kumar Pandey will assume the role of Labour Secretary and Chairman of the Uttarakhand Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, replacing R. Meenakshi Sundaram.
Other transfers:
The reshuffle also includes one Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer and five PCS officers, with changes made across various departments.
These administrative changes are expected to impact the functioning of the state government and its various departments significantly.
