President Murmu to visit Ujjain today

President Droupadi Murmu is set to visit Ujjain on Thursday as part of her two-day tour of Madhya Pradesh. During her visit, she will pay homage to the Mahakaleshwar temple, attend the Safai Mitra Sammelan, and virtually inaugurate a significant six-lane highway project.

Accompanied by Governor Mangubhai Patel and Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, President Murmu will first offer prayers at the Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple. Following her visit to the temple, she will participate in a cleanliness drive under the Swachhata Hi Seva Pakhwada initiative. Additionally, the President plans to engage with local craftsmen at Shri Mahakal Lok and distribute certificates to the Swachhata Mitras, further highlighting her commitment to cleanliness and community service.

The highlight of her visit will be the virtual laying of the foundation stone for a six-lane highway that spans 46 kilometers and is projected to cost Rs.1,692 crore. This crucial road will connect the two major cities of Indore and Ujjain, significantly enhancing transportation ahead of the upcoming Simhastha Mela, the largest Hindu religious event scheduled for 2028.

As the event is expected to attract a large number of visitors traveling from Indore to Ujjain, improved road connectivity is essential. The Madhya Pradesh government is also prioritizing enhancements to rail connectivity in preparation for the influx of pilgrims.

In a recent review meeting, Chief Minister Yadav emphasized the importance of both Ujjain and Indore divisions in managing the Simhastha Mela, noting that many devotees visiting Ujjain also travel to nearby Omkareshwar. Enhancing connectivity between these locations is crucial for a successful event.

The month-long Simhastha Mela, held every 12 years, is anticipated to draw millions of Hindu devotees to Ujjain, making infrastructure improvements vital for accommodating the expected crowd.

On her first day in Madhya Pradesh, President Murmu visited Indore, where she met with tribal artists at the Mriganayani Emporium and encouraged them to preserve their traditional art forms. She underscored the importance of maintaining ancient cultural practices in a rapidly changing world.

With her ongoing tour, President Murmu aims to bolster development and cultural preservation in Madhya Pradesh, marking a significant step towards enhancing the region’s infrastructure and heritage.
