BSF and GRP arrest nine for illegal entry into Tripura

On Saturday, officials reported the arrest of nine individuals, including seven Bangladeshi nationals and two Rohingyas, for illegal entry into Tripura. The Border Security Force (BSF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP) conducted the arrests.

According to a BSF spokesperson, three Bangladeshi nationals, including a woman and a child, were apprehended at the Rangichera Border Out Post (BOP) in Tripura’s Khowai district as they attempted to cross the border fence. During interrogation, they disclosed that two more of their associates had already crossed the fence and were headed toward Bagicherra village.

A joint operation with state police in Bagicherra village led to the apprehension of two additional Bangladeshi nationals and a tout, who was also identified as a Bangladeshi from Moulvibazar. The tout, a carpenter residing in Tripura’s Halahalli, was found to be connected with the illegal entry.

On Friday night, the BSF also seized imported cigarettes worth Rs.33 lakh from a Bangladeshi smuggler at the BOP in Kalkalia, West Tripura.

In a separate operation, the GRP arrested two Rohingyas, including a woman, at Agartala railway station. These individuals had reportedly fled from refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, where displaced Rohingyas have been living since 2017.

In recent months, more than 310 Bangladeshi nationals and 34 Rohingyas have been detained by the GRP, BSF, and Tripura Police across various locations in the state for illegal entry into India.
