Yogi Adityanath’s crackdown on corruption

In a decisive move aimed at enhancing transparency, the Uttar Pradesh government, under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has taken a bold stance by withholding salaries for over 2.5 lakh state employees who failed to disclose their property details online.

As of the end of August, a total of 2,44,565 employees have not received their salaries due to their non-compliance with the online property disclosure requirement.

The directive mandated that all state employees upload their property details on the Manav Sampada Portal by August 31. However, only 71 percent of employees adhered to this requirement, prompting the government to withhold the salaries of those who did not comply.

This measure reflects the government’s commitment to maintaining high standards of accountability and transparency within the state administration. This move is seen as a significant step toward ensuring that public officials are transparent about their assets, reinforcing trust in the state’s governance and financial management systems.

This policy, which aligns with similar requirements for IAS, IPS, PPS, and PCS officers, aims to ensure that all state employees, regardless of their rank, are held to the same standards of disclosure.

It is noteworthy that the new mandate does not apply to teachers, corporation employees, or those working in autonomous institutions, focusing instead on state employees directly under government administration.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s administration is being lauded for its stringent enforcement of ethical standards and accountability.

Earlier, the Yogi government had asked its employees to declare their movable and immovable assets by 31 August on the state government’s ‘Manav Sampada’ portal.

Failure to do so might stop the monthly salaries from being credited to their accounts and negatively affect their promotions. The order was issued in August last year with an initial deadline of 31 December 2023.

However, the deadline was extended multiple times, earlier to 30 June, then to 31 July, and then to 31 August.
