EAM Jaishankar arrives in Saudi Arabia for first India-GCC foreign ministers’ meet

Visit of EAM, S Jaishankar to Saudi Arabia, Germany and Switzerland

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar arrived in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday to attend the inaugural India-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. His visit marks a significant milestone in strengthening relations between India and the GCC.

During his two-day visit from September 8 to September 9, Jaishankar is set to engage in bilateral discussions with Foreign Ministers from GCC member countries. The meetings aim to review and enhance the multifaceted relationship between India and the GCC, which spans political, trade, investment, energy cooperation, and cultural ties.

The GCC region is a major trading partner for India and hosts a significant Indian expatriate community of approximately 8.9 million people. The Foreign Ministers’ meeting will serve as a platform to deepen institutional cooperation across various sectors.

These visits highlight India’s commitment to strengthening its international relationships and advancing strategic partnerships across key global regions.

A warm welcome in Riyadh

Upon arrival, EAM Jaishankar was warmly welcomed by Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Minister for Protocol Affairs, Abdulmajeed Al Smari. Jaishankar expressed his gratitude on social media, stating, “Arrived in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to take part in the First India – Gulf Cooperation Council Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. Thank Abdulmajeed Al Smari, Deputy Minister for Protocol Affairs for the warm reception.”

Post Riyadh next Berlin & Geneva

Following his Riyadh visit, EAM Jaishankar will travel to Berlin for a two-day visit starting September 10. This trip marks his third bilateral visit to Germany, a key partner with whom India shares a robust strategic partnership and significant trade and investment relations.

On September 12, Jaishankar will proceed to Geneva, Switzerland for an official visit. Geneva is home to numerous UN bodies and international organizations, making it a crucial stop for ongoing diplomatic engagements.
