Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi meets PM Modi in Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in bilateral talks with Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, at Hyderabad House on Monday. This marks the Crown Prince’s first official visit to India.

The meeting began with a handshake and a warm embrace between the two leaders, underscoring the close ties between the nations. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed, who arrived in New Delhi on Sunday, was welcomed with a ceremonial reception by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal at the airport.

During his visit, the Crown Prince is scheduled to meet President Droupadi Murmu and pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, reflecting the significance of the visit in deepening bilateral relations.

Accompanied by a delegation of UAE ministers and business leaders, Sheikh Khaled’s visit aims to bolster cooperation across various sectors, further advancing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and the UAE.

On September 10, the Crown Prince will travel to Mumbai to participate in a business forum featuring prominent figures from both India and the UAE, highlighting the growing economic collaboration between the two countries.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) emphasized the importance of the visit, noting, “India and the UAE share historically strong and friendly relations. The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations has expanded in recent years across political, trade, investment, connectivity, energy, technology, education, and cultural domains.”

The MEA also pointed out that the Crown Prince’s visit will reinforce the robust bilateral relationship and open new avenues for partnership in emerging fields.

Earlier this year, UAE President His Highness Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan visited India to enhance bilateral ties, attending the 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit and exploring new cooperative avenues. Prime Minister Modi has also made multiple visits to the UAE, with his latest trip in July 2023, reaffirming the strong relationship between the two countries.

Trade between India and the UAE reached $85 billion in 2022, making the UAE India’s third-largest trading partner and second-largest export destination. Conversely, India is the UAE’s second-largest trading partner, according to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership was officially established during President Mohamed bin Zayed’s visit to India in 2017.
