PM Modi pens blog as ‘Make in India’ turns 10

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday marked the tenth anniversary of the ‘Make in India’ initiative, emphasizing the transformative power of collective effort among India’s 1.4 billion citizens in turning the nation into a global manufacturing and innovation hub.

In a blog post reflecting on the initiative’s achievements, PM Modi declared, “The impact of Make in India shows that Bharat is unstoppable.” He expressed gratitude towards the country’s vast talent pool, crediting them for the initiative’s success and highlighting their roles as pioneers and innovators.

“Today is a moment to salute the talent and hard work that has made this initiative a roaring success,” he wrote. The Prime Minister noted significant progress in the manufacturing sector and the rising prominence of Indian products in global exports.

Among the standout successes cited was the mobile manufacturing sector, which has grown dramatically since the initiative’s launch. In 2014, India had just two mobile manufacturing units; today, that number exceeds 200. PM Modi pointed out that mobile exports surged from Rs.1,556 crore to an astonishing Rs.1.2 lakh crore, a remarkable 7,500 percent increase. He added that 99 percent of mobile phones used in India are now manufactured domestically, positioning India as the world’s second-largest mobile manufacturer.

PM Modi also highlighted advancements in other sectors, including steel, where India has become a net exporter of finished products, and semiconductor manufacturing, which has attracted over Rs.1.5 lakh crore in investments. He noted that the capacity for semiconductor production is set to exceed 7 crore chips per day.

In renewable energy, India has achieved a 400 percent increase in capacity over the past decade, making it the fourth-largest producer globally. The electric vehicle industry, virtually nonexistent in 2014, has now grown to a value of $3 billion.

Defence production exports also saw significant growth, rising from Rs.1,000 crore to Rs.21,000 crore, spanning over 85 countries. PM Modi praised the indigenous production of advanced trains like Vande Bharat and missiles such as BrahMos, all bearing the ‘Make in India’ imprint.

He emphasized the initiative’s role in empowering the poor, enabling them to dream big and become wealth creators. The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes were highlighted as game-changers, facilitating substantial investments and job creation.

PM Modi called upon the youth to engage with the Make in India initiative and help elevate it further. He concluded by stating, “The momentum is clearly in India’s favour. Despite unprecedented challenges, including the global pandemic, India has remained on a growth trajectory. We must strive for excellence—zero defect should be our mantra.”

As the nation celebrates this significant milestone, the Prime Minister’s message reinforces India’s commitment to becoming a major player in the global supply chain.
