Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s first official visit to India; receives a warm welcome

Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, arrived in New Delhi on Sunday for an official visit to India. The visit is at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This is Zayed Al Nahyan’s first visit to India as the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and he is accompanied by several Ministers from the UAE government and a business delegation.

The Crown Prince is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Modi on September 9, where discussions will focus on enhancing bilateral cooperation across various sectors. His visit also includes a courtesy call on President Droupadi Murmu and a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.

Following his New Delhi engagements, Sheikh Khaled will travel to Mumbai on September 10 to participate in a business forum featuring leaders from both countries. This forum aims to foster further economic and business collaborations.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted that the visit underscores the historically close and friendly ties between India and the UAE. The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations has grown significantly in areas such as trade, investment, energy, technology, and cultural exchange.

In January, UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan visited India, focusing on strengthening the strategic partnership and attending the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit. Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the UAE in July 2023 further reinforced this partnership. Since the elevation of the relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2017, both countries have seen substantial growth in trade and cooperation.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), trade between India and the UAE reached USD 85 billion in 2022, making the UAE India’s third-largest trading partner and second-largest export destination. The UAE is also India’s second-largest trading partner.

This high-profile visit is expected to solidify existing ties and explore new opportunities for collaboration between the two nations.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal greeted the Crown Prince at the airport, offering a ceremonial welcome. Sheikh Khaled’s visit marks his initial trip to India in his capacity as Crown Prince and comes with a delegation that includes UAE government ministers and a business entourage.
