Another goods train derailed in West Bengal, no casualties reported

Six wagons of an empty goods train derailed near New Maynaguri station in the Alipurduar district of West Bengal on Tuesday morning. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.

Railway authorities confirmed that despite the derailment, there was no disruption to railway services. Trains scheduled to travel on the affected lines were promptly diverted to alternate routes while restoration work commenced at the site.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the goods train was traveling at a slow speed at the time of the derailment, which minimized the impact of the incident. However, two electrical posts and a water pipeline at the station were damaged after being struck by the derailed wagons.

Senior railway officials quickly arrived at the scene to assess the situation and coordinate response efforts. An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the derailment, although preliminary reports have yet to reveal any definitive reasons.

This incident follows a series of railway mishaps in the region. On June 17, a collision between the Kanchenjunga Express and a goods train near Rangapani station resulted in the deaths of at least 11 people. That collision was attributed to a goods train exceeding the restricted speed limit while traveling in an area with a non-functional automatic signaling system.

Additionally, on July 31, two wagons of a goods train derailed in the same Darjeeling district, raising concerns about railway safety in the area.

Authorities are emphasizing the importance of thorough investigations to prevent future incidents and ensure the safety of railway operations.
