Ahead of Assembly Election, Dy CM Fadnavis confirms CM Shinde will lead MahaYuti

Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, confirmed on Friday that the MahaYuti alliance will contest the upcoming Assembly elections under the leadership of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Fadnavis assured that there is no disagreement among the alliance partners regarding Shinde’s role as the face of the campaign.

Speaking at an interactive session organized by a Marathi news channel, Fadnavis emphasized that “Eknath Shinde is the head of the state,” and as the Chief Minister, he will lead the election campaign. “When we have a Chief Minister, there is no consideration of another face. The Assembly election will be contested under Eknath Shinde’s leadership. Decisions regarding who will be the Chief Minister after the election will be made by the BJP’s Parliamentary Board and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA),” he added.

Fadnavis clarified that while the Parliamentary Board will determine the Chief Ministerial candidate post-election, the current focus remains on presenting a united front in the campaign. “The decision about the Chief Minister will be made by the BJP Parliamentary Board, Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde, and NCP’s Ajit Pawar. We will respect whatever decision these leaders take,” he said.

The statement comes amidst discussions about leadership roles within the Shiv Sena-UBT, Congress, and NCP-SP alliance. Shiv Sena-UBT chief Uddhav Thackeray has urged the Congress and NCP-SP to declare their Chief Ministerial candidate, which Sharad Pawar of the NCP-SP has resisted, suggesting that such decisions should be made post-election based on seat outcomes. State Congress chief Nana Patole also echoed this view, stating that the CM decision will be made after the election.

Regarding the “Ladki Bahin” scheme, Fadnavis acknowledged its inspiration from the Ladli Behana scheme of Madhya Pradesh’s former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. He highlighted that there is no contention among MahaYuti partners over the scheme’s success, though it has received significant attention.

Fadnavis also addressed opposition criticism regarding the recent collapse of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s statue at Rajkot Fort in Malvan, Sindhudurg district. He expressed disappointment at the opposition’s attempts to politicize the incident, emphasizing the emotional impact on the people of Maharashtra.

Overall, Fadnavis’ remarks aim to consolidate the alliance’s position and address ongoing political debates as the state heads into the Assembly elections.
