‘Shri Krishna Gaman Path’: Rajasthan eyes tourism boost with proposed religious circuit
Optimism grows in Rajasthan's tourism sector with new Shri Krishna Gaman Path circuit

Shri Krishna Gaman Path will promote our culture and heritage

Tourism stakeholders in Rajasthan are abuzz with excitement following the announcement of the Shri Krishna Gaman Path, a new religious circuit aimed at boosting tourism across the region. This initiative, revealed last month by Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma during his visit to Ujjain, is set to link significant sites associated with Lord Krishna in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

Cultural and religious connection

The Shri Krishna Gaman Path will be a collaborative effort between the Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh governments. The circuit will highlight cultural and religious sites related to Lord Krishna, starting from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh—his birthplace—and traveling through Rajasthan before concluding in Ujjain, where Krishna received teachings at the Sandipani Ashram.

Spanning approximately 800 kilometers, the circuit will cover around 500 kilometers through six districts in Rajasthan. Travelers will have the opportunity to explore over 30 important temples and smaller shrines along the route, connecting Krishna’s early life to his spiritual teachings.

Tourism professionals in Rajasthan are welcoming the initiative as a significant boost for the industry. One stakeholder in Jaipur remarked, “This proposal is promising for our industry, as it will enhance religious tourism in the state and attract more domestic tourists. This is especially important given the current geopolitical tensions affecting international travel.”

He added that the influx of domestic tourists due to the new circuit will create valuable employment opportunities and support local businesses. The Shri Krishna Gaman Path is seen as a vital opportunity to promote Rajasthan’s rich cultural and heritage offerings.

The new circuit is drawing comparisons to recent successes in other states. “Just as the Ram Temple in Ayodhya and the Kashi Corridor have revitalized tourism in Uttar Pradesh, we hope the Shri Krishna Gaman Path will have a similar impact in Rajasthan,” another tourism stakeholder noted.

Gajendra Luniwal, President of the Hotel Association of Jaipur, expressed optimism about the circuit’s potential. “With Deputy CM Diya Kumari actively supporting tourism and Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat from Rajasthan, we are confident that this initiative will bring positive changes to our tourism sector,” Luniwal told news agency IANS.

In 2023, Rajasthan saw a total of 17.90 crore tourists, including 16.99 lakh international visitors. The new Shri Krishna Gaman Path circuit is expected to further enhance the state’s appeal and attract more visitors in the coming years.
