Israel confirmed on Friday that it conducted a precision airstrike in Beirut that resulted in the death of Ibrahim Aqil, commander of Hezbollah‘s Elite Radwan Force. The strike targeted a gathering of senior commanders, claiming the lives of at least 14 individuals, including 10 high-ranking officials.

Aqil, a prominent military figure in Hezbollah, was wanted by the United States for his involvement in the 1983 bombings of the US Embassy and Marine barracks in Beirut. Hezbollah has acknowledged his death, describing him as a “great jihadist leader.”

Aqil’s death marks a serious blow to Hezbollah’s leadership, especially as it comes just weeks after the death of Fuad Shukr, another senior Hezbollah commander, in a similar Israeli airstrike. Both men were top figures within Hezbollah’s military operations and played key roles in planning attacks against Israel.

Local reports, including coverage from MTV, indicated that Aqil’s body was discovered alongside those of seven other members of the Radwan Force. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the entire command committee of the Elite Radwan Force was present at the time of the airstrike.

Civil defense teams are currently conducting searches for additional victims beneath the rubble, according to the Xinhua news agency. The Israeli airstrike has been reported to have resulted in 14 fatalities and 66 injuries, as confirmed by the Health Ministry.

The incident marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, raising concerns over potential further violence in the region.
